What does it mean to have donors cover fees?
Payment processors do not allow for donors to cover fees, which means you’ll always pay the 2-3% fee + $0.30 per transaction. Whereas with Resilia Donations, donors have the option to cover fees, which 95% do, leading to our users typically paying closer to a 1% fee.
- An illustrative example of receiving donations. The example has the Donation Amount, the processing fees (The Resilia Transaction Fee of 6%), if the fees were covered by the Donor or not, and finally what the nonprofit receives:
- 1) Donor 1 = $100 (Donation Amount) + $6 (Processing Fees) = $106 $6/$100 = 6% Processing Fees Covered by the Donor You receive = $100
- 2) Donor 2 = $100 (Donation Amount) + $6 (Processing Fees) = $106 $6/$100 = 6% Processing Fees Covered by the Donor You receive = $100
- 3) Donor 3 = $100 (Donation Amount) + $6 (Processing Fees) = $106 $6/$100 = 6% Processing Fees Covered by the Donor You receive = $100
- 4) Donor 4 = $100 (Donation Amount) + $6 (Processing Fees) = $106 $6/$100 = 6% Processing Fees Covered by the Donor You receive = $100
- 5) Donor 5 = $100 (Donation Amount) + $6 (Processing Fees) = $106 $6/$100 = 6% Processing Fees Covered by the Donor You receive = $100
- 6) Donor 6 = $100 (Donation Amount) - $6 (Processing Fees) = $94 $6/$100 = 6% Processing Fees Not Covered by the Donor You receive = $96
So in this example we have 6 donations in which 5 out of 6 fees were covered by donors = (5/6) = 83%. You received in total = $596, but 5 of them covered the fees of 6% one other didn’t, so the math says:
- $6 (Total Processing Fees paid by you) / $596 (Total Amount received) = 0.01 = 1% (Average Processing Fee paid by you)
