How to best use Funder Finder?

Resilia's Funder Finder v2018 was developed with a clear and vital mission: to facilitate connections between nonprofits and funders, whether they operate locally or nationally. The tool allows users to search for funders based on mission areas and funding size, providing valuable information about potential opportunities for nonprofit organizations.

However, it's essential to note that due to IRS delays and data limitations, we have yet to be able to incorporate updates that we recognize are crucial for nonprofits, (since the last data update was in 2018).

Since 2018, the landscape of funders and nonprofit organizations has undergone significant changes, particularly in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic and amid various social justice movements.

While the available data still offers a relatively accessible and streamlined search, we recommend using this tool to compile a list of potential funders for further research beyond Funder Finder. We have created a template for you to help in this process.

When using Funder Finder, you should focus on searching by:

1. State
2. Mission Area
3. State and Mission Area

When evaluating potential funders within Funder Finder, pay attention to:

1. The size of the listed gifts
2. The names and types of organizations they have supported

Once you identify funders that align with your organization's goals, copy the template and then use it to visit their respective websites and gather additional information to help you prioritize the best opportunities to pursue.

You can find the template here.

We understand the importance of having an up-to-date tool and the value of your time. Our team is committed to working on an improved, optimized, and actionable Funder Finder using recently released and updated IRS data. We aim to provide this update in the second half of 2024.
